Welcome to the website of Bunda District. This    website is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of the work of District Commissioner's Office, District Executive Director's Office, Bunda Township Authority and other Organizations in the District.

 

 


 

Bunda District is located at the southern end of Mara region, about 65 kms from the regional headquarters (Musoma). It lies adjacent to the south east shores of Lake Victoria, from which it is separated by wide plains which stretch slowly into the lower and flatter lands of Serengeti district on the eastern side.

The District shares borders with Serengeti district on the East, Musoma rural district on the North, Magu district in Mwanza region and Bariadi district of Shinyanga region on the South, while Ukerewe district of Mwanza region is located on the Western side of the district. In terms of international identification, the district lies between 01030’ and 2045’ south of the Equator and between 33039’ and 34005’ East of Greenwich.

 


 

Bunda District has a total surface area of 3,088 sq. kms, out of which land area is 2,888 sq. kms most of which is plain land with a good number of steep and stoney hills, valleys and escarpments and 200sq. km of water which is mostly Lake Victoria. The arable land available for agricultural production is 241 sq. kms only. Out of the arable land in the district, only 76 sq. kms is actually cultivated annually, leaving the remaining 165 sq. kms either lying idle due to infertility, or being edges/hills and river beds.
